The ALIVE Mental Health Research Virtual Café Translation Conversations #24
The ALIVE National Centre is proud to present the next instalment of Ready, Set, Translate: The ALIVE Mental Health Research Virtual Café Translation Conversations, on Thursday 27th February at 1pm – 2pm (AEDT).
Join Prof Laura Tarzia in conversation with Prof Kelsey Hegarty as they discuss Transforming health systems to restore wellbeing and enhance access to healing after sexual violence: The RESTORE CRE.
Sexual violence in adulthood is a major contributor to the burden of chronic ill-health in Australia, particularly for women and LGBTQ+ individuals. The health system is recognised as a key part of an effective response; however, policies, investment, and practices have not shifted to match this recognition. Addressing this challenge, the NHMRC-funded RESTORE CRE will become the first dedicated Centre to lead research into the innovative health sector responses that are needed to restore wellbeing and enhance access to healing for victim/survivors.
We will draw together multidisciplinary research leaders, existing data sets, ongoing studies and links with consumers, health sector leaders, community groups and policy makers to develop a world-leading transdisciplinary framework for care. This presentation will introduce the RESTORE CRE and highlight how it builds upon and integrates with the work of the ALIVE National Centre.
About the speaker:
Professor Laura Tarzia is co-lead of the Sexual and Family Violence (SAFE) research program within the Department of General Practice and Primary Care, The University of Melbourne. She is also Director of the NHMRC-funded RESTORE Centre of Research Excellence, which is focused on transforming health systems to promote healing and recovery after sexual violence. Her work draws on the voices of victim/survivors to increase understanding about the context and dynamics of sexual and reproductive violence and how we can use these insights to strengthen trauma-informed responses in health settings and the community.
