Current intake processes for mental health services can be unwieldy and complicated and can interfere with understanding the person and their needs for support. There is an over-emphasis on existing diagnoses and clinical markers of ill-health. There is a need to survey existing measures and processes, and promote or develop more person-centred approaches that address the whole of the person and their needs.
