The Idea

Take care when reading* I am an introvert who champions how loneliness can be used as time to discover one’s authentic self without being influenced by outside forces. This piece is a character monologue based on the mentality I had about loneliness 2 years ago. It centres around someone believing that distancing yourself from people can help you unlock who you truly are, but taken to an extreme where he unfairly judges other people who would find taking a step back from socialising harder to do (extroverts). I have since grown out of this mentality and realised how this way of thinking is close minded and uncompassionate. Monologue: “All I want is a city to myself. And I want everyone to know where it is so they can gaze upon it from 1000 miles away. It ain’t a coincidence that the most successful time of my life came when I sent myself packing from the rest of the world. I turned myself into a living god, ME, I did that, for me. I cut all the baggage loose and now people quake at what I write into existence. Loneliness is killing people?! What the fuck am I suppose to say to that? Loneliness has been my fucking god-send! If someone is so cracked out on being smothered in shallow company, then it’s true that some people were never made to win. Because the only way you win is by cutting yourself off from the world so that you can re-remember who the fuck you are. Now pick up the gun and let’s do this.”
